On Friday, Fancy Hagood dropped a surprise EP, BABY JAKE, but what's no surprise is how moving these three songs are. While we know that Hagood can go big, BABY JAKE gives us an intimate sit-down with Hagood's angelic voice and irresistible melodies.

"Love Me Back" is a Hagood classic, a tale of unrequited love conveyed with Hagood's trademark warmth. Sure, it's a melancholy tale, but we can't help feeling that Hagood is addressing his crush with a rueful grin in addition to a broken heart.

The mandolin fills hint at what's to come next: a bluegrass cover of the Spice Girls' "Say You'll Be There." Hagood has a way with covers, but this one gives the song a whole new life. Rather than the Spice Girls' maximalist production, this bluegrass version conveys a true sense of heartache.

Lastly, "To The Moon" is a millenial-twee love song that Hagood wrote with The Brummies' John Davidson and Jacob Bryant. The transcendence of Hagood's delivery gives the song wings. This EP is Hagood's first stab at producing, and, hopefully, a hint at what's to come from Hagood later in the year.
