Marx Cassity — 2Sacred

Marx Cassity (Osage/Kaw) returns, at long last, with their unique Indigicana album 2Sacred. (We featured Cassity as our Rainbow Rewind artist in February.) 2Sacred kicks off with “Somewhere,” a meditative track that is as much Blondie as it is Buffy St-Marie. Cassity’s breathy singing and dreamy electronic synths create an air of deep exploration, asking us to approach our humanity as we immerse ourselves in digital sounds.

These songs all have a meditative air, which Cassity told us is due to their writing songs in the darkness before down. These thoughts have lead to explorations on gender, identity, self-love…and how to retain those in the face of cultural genocide. 2Sacred is an album that encompasses pain and hope, strength and despair, an expansiveness born of Cassity’s own struggles.

2Sacred is a powerful album, one that is grounded in the confidence that can only be gain in striving to understand your true self. In this regard, Cassity serves as a role model to us all.
