In her new song "Carousel of Colors," Austin singer-songwriter veteran Alison Tucker looks back on her life – and finds hope in its cycles of loss and renewal. The song is a gentle lullaby, its waltz reflecting the ups and downs of the titular carousel. Her album Where You Used To Be is out on June 6 – the culmination of a life that has seen its shares of ups and downs.
“In the middle of a life turned upside down—after years devoted to career and family—I found myself rebuilding from the ground up," Tucker explains. "I was navigating divorce, caregiving for my mother, and sharing custody of my two children. In the quiet chaos of starting over, one truth remained: I had always been a songwriter. And I had always been a performer. Long before the titles of partner, parent, or professional, I was writing songs and standing on stages, using music to express the emotions that so many struggle to name. That part of me never disappeared—it simply waited for the right time to rise again."
