  • It’s never easy to lose someone, but Fancy Hagood reminds us that holding on to the good memories can create something that can only be called “Good Grief.” The sunny pop gives way to lyrical complexity, and hints at an exciting album sometime in the near future.
  • Jordan Maye gifts us with some gentle gospel-inspired pop on “Walking on Water.” As she tells The Q Reviews, the song is about overcoming a moment of fear on a winter’s day.
  • Kara Cole uncouples herself from a toxic relationship with alcohol on the rocking “I’m a Mess.” Cole’s exceptional voice transforms into a tortured rasp as she comes to terms with addiction and the work it will take to work her way through. That fight is dramatized on her new music video (below.)
  • “Blood Moon” is the newest release from Jersey chroniclers The Lower Aetna. The band’s mission to tell tales of queer country life in the Pine Barrens comes alive with the langorous intensity of “Blood Moon,” a heavy jam that calls to mind Songs:Ohia.
  • The Belle Curves remain unmatched in their breezy retro vibes. “Hand-Rolled” is a beach-ready rejection of self-doubt and an embrace of freedom, if even for a moment.
  • Breymer continues to drop singles from their upcoming album When I Get Through, about their experience with top surgery. The song was originally written to comfort their wife, but Breymer (who has changed their artist name from Sarah Walk since our interview) has found it to be a balm to themself, too.
