- Brandi Carlile channels her inner Sleater-Kinney with "Church & State." The song has a distinctly riot grrl feel with machine-gun drums, angular guitars, and Carlile's own righteous fury.
- Ty Herndon records "Big Hopes" the way he'd always hoped to with his partner Alex Schwartz. You can hear the strength in his voice as he sings his vintage love song with a man – the way it always should have been.
- Garrison Starr showcases her pipes on "Hold On." While Starr usually centers herself with an intimate performance and an acoustic guitar, she lets it rip with a rock band, which is maybe how we should always get to hear her.
- Rainbow Kitten Surprise dig deep into teen angst on "100 Summers." This is a breakup song for the ages – capturing the feeling that there's all the time in the world, and that some feelings will simply last forever.
- With their album out next month, Haunted Like Human round us out with "Appaloosa." It's a gorgeous love song sung simply and with feeling – and that's sometimes all you need.
