  • Bobby Dove channels their inner Johnny Cash on "Trans Canadian Blues," a road warrior's ballad of doing things your own way while coming up against bigots and yokels. The bastards don't get Dove down, though, and this song is an instant classic.
  • On a similar theme, Connor McGee captures the freedom of highway life and lazy summer afternoons on this mellow country rocker.
  • Maia Sharp calls attention to the sacrifices of war on "Strumming Hand," co-written with John Cameron III. The song depicts a narrator whose strumming hand is damaged in battle – but it's a statement on all the things we risk, large and small, when we put people in harm's way.
  • Medium Build covers Charli xcx's "Sympathy Is a Knife" with eerie intensity. Why compete with your ex's girlfriend when you could be her? Or something...more? Medium Build's cover builds on that disturbing tension.
  • Chris Housman gives us another take on his hit "Blueneck." The gentle bass and hand drum foreground the song's generous warmth and humor.
