Sarah King Rings in the Solstice With "The Longest Night" of the Soul
Sarah King is proof that big things come in small packages. King’s powerful voice is uniquely suited for American and blues, a force of nature that conveys big emotions amidst rock-steady arrangements. King’s latest, “The Longest Night,” is a timely one for the Winter Solstice.
This blues-rock ballad marks the end of a tortuous and tortured relationship. For King, this song was healing.
“I wrote this song last winter partially inspired by a long-term on-again/off-again relationship that always seemed to be ‘on’ during the winter solstice,” King explains. “Although that relationship has been permanently off for years, I was apparently still holding onto something about it somewhere deep within. When this song came out of me, I felt a weight lifted. I think we can all relate to the feeling of “I love you and I’m leaving you anyway” when situations may not exactly be wrong, but we can tell they’re not right.”
