Hannah Connolly brings classic country defiance to her rousing song “Tired of Trying.” The song ramps up quickly as Connolly belts out the lyrics that show she’s on her very last nerve. The romp continues apace as Connolly lets off steam. “Tired of Trying” is off Connolly’s album Shadowboxing, released in March, but Rainbow Rodeo is premiering a never-before-seen live video of the recording.
HConnolly is a singer-songwriter originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, now living in Los Angeles, California. Her debut album From Where You Are was released in 2020, soon to be followed by her forthcoming second record, Shadowboxing.
Connolly began work on Shadowboxing in late 2020. The pandemic forced Connolly and her collaborators to work and write remotely, and video sessions became the norm. While that new method of songwriting took some getting used to, Connolly found that the quiet and solitude afforded by being home during the pandemic gave her a place of spaciousness from which to write. She wrote many of the songs with Jordan Ruiz, who produced From Where You Are.
“‘Tired of Trying’ is the angriest song on the album. This is my ‘at the end of your rope’ song,” Connolly tells Rainbow Rode. “I think it speaks for itself in a lot of ways but it was a bit of a temper tantrum that I needed to get off my chest before picking back up to start again.”
