Marian Runk takes a cautiously optimistic approach with her meditative video "New Year." The song, which can be found on last year's album Two Wires and a Spark, tumbles off of Runk's tongue like a minuet, an almost stream-of-consciousness account of a small moment that ends up revealing a large impact.

"I wrote this song after a walk in the woods with my friend on New Year's Day," Runk explains. "This was the first thing I wrote on my electric guitar! I became a little addicted to the moodiness of the sound, and I've since written a whole batch of songs on electric. I'm recording an LP of those right now (keeps your eyes peeled for a 2026 release!)"

The song guides us gently through memories of past New Year's Day dread – and the gentle contentment of realizing that the narrator no longer has to feel that way.

"'New Year' tells a story of New Year’s Day, and the rituals & superstitions we practice to leave a hard year in the past."

Here's to a better year ahead as we glide into the holidays.
