Ever More Nest Hits the Bars on "Back in the Doghouse on Christmas"
Ever More Nest gives a holiday gift to the screw-ups on "Back in the Doghouse on Christmas"
Ever More Nest really screwed up – and she sings about it on "Back in the Doghouse on Christmas." The video is set in New Orleans' legendary dive bar Snake & Jake's Christmas Lounge – the logical setting for a song about all the ways you can enrage your long-suffering wife.
The song comes off of Ever More Nest's latest Christmas EP, Merry Little Thing. Ever More Nest balances "Doghouse" with the somber ballad "Where Do Holidays Go" and an elegant cover of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
Recorded in New Orleans with support from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, Merry Little Thing EP reunites songwriter the singer-songwriter with legendary producer Mark Bingham, who helmed her first album in 2007. The project features John Fohl (Dr. John, Cherry Poppin' Daddies) on electric guitars, lap steel, and mandolin, with Chris Nicotera on bass and Bingham adding atmospheric "space guitars."
"The holidays elicit a variety of emotions and therefore make for great songwriting fodder," says Ever More Nest. "The holidays can be merry, sure, but they can also be challenging. As a songwriter, I think it's important to capture the spectrum of experiences holidays bring."
