LISTEN: C.C. Trubiak Leaves It Behind on "Being Rich"
On his new song "Being Rich," C.C. Trubiak faces down the realities of losing all of his earthly belongings with this comforting story song.
C.C. Trubiak is a cowboy social worker, roaming the plains of Manitoba with his beautiful voice and painted guitar. While the nomadic cowboy is a romantic image, Trubiak faced down the hard reality a few summers ago when he was evacuated from his northern Manitobia home during the now all-too-common fire seasons.
"I was suddenly separated from almost everything I owned — my home, my belongings, my photographs, all the little things we build our identities around. There were days where I was terrified of losing it all and wondering who I’d even be without those material things. Writing songs became a way to calm that fear."
With a soulful voice and gentle guitar strum, "Being Rich" is a lullabye designed to soothe and affirm that we are more than the things we carry.
"Inspired by the classic country storytelling songs I grew up loving, the song follows two characters: a wealthy woman surrounded by luxury but starved for real connection, and a homeless man resting by the riverside, holding onto a photo of his parents and feeling rich through the love and memories they gave him. At its heart, the song is about the idea that true wealth has very little to do with money — it’s about love, meaning, and the memories that stay with us long after everything else fades."
C.C. Trubiak's new album Jukebox in Exile will be out on June 5. You can pre-save it here.
