Fancy Hagood and Michelle Branch team up for a caper in the new video for "Isn't That Life." With the upcoming release of Fancy Hagood's deluxe version of American Spirit (we featured Hagood's cover of Lucy Silvas' "My Old Habits" yesterday), it's a good time to refresh your memory of one of my favorite songs on the album.
“When talking through ideas with the director, Ford Fairchild, the idea hit me, 'what if Michelle and I were Mary Anne and Wanda's (of 'Goodbye Earl') younger cousins, reliving the generational patterns that happen in families,'" recalls Hagood. "The Chicks’ iconic music video was a big inspiration for us, but of course we had to put our own spin on it. The song is a positive outlook on heartbreak, but the video is a dark storyline told through a campy and humorous lens. After all, when you can look back and laugh at the bad times, you know you’ve really moved on.”
The video is good fun, and I snort-laughed hearing Michelle Branch exclaim "I can't go to jail again!"
