LISTEN: Mya Byrne is "Almost Gone"
Mya Byrne returns with "Almost Gone," an impassioned and sultry blues song about knowing when it's time to find new beginnings.
"Sometimes the second verse is the one you write first. Sometimes the ocean helps you write the rest," explains acclaimed artist Mya Byrne.
After the release of Rhinestone Tomboy, Byrne hit the studio fired up and ready to go – only to find a loud silence when it came to supporting trans women in American and country music. With "Almost Gone," there is a palpable sense of heartbreak amid Byrne's emotional performance and slinky guitars.
"I wrote Almost Gone on a day visiting a friend’s farm in coastal California, meandering the beach and through flower fields, sketching melodies in my notebook since i was off the grid," she explains. "I’d woken up with the tune in my head and by sunset, watching the waves, it was fully realized. I think it’s about finding new beginnings at the end of something important, when your body deeply needs a change. I hope it speaks to you."
