PREMIERE: Ever More Nest Gives Lover's Ex the Boot on "Mine to Love"

New Orleans' Ever More Nest is blessing us with new music – namely, the sardonic breakup drama "Mine to Love" – just in time for sweater weather and cuffing season. After the band released a set of hangdog Christmas songs, it was only a matter of time before they hit the studios again. "Mine to Love" is a gentle waltz that encourages us to imagine quietly shuffling that one problematic person out the door – or, perhaps, softly sneaking out the back when they won't leave.

"Just as there's a story behind every heartbreak, there's a story behind every 'ex,'" lead singer Kelcy Mae explains. "While some go gently into that good night, so to speak, others make a great deal of noise."

Using real-life dyke drama and the heightened campiness of The L Word as inspiration, Mae enjoyed conjuring the extremes of a messy breakup for "Mine to Love."

"I don't know if that's real or not, but it felt real enough in my experience to call to mind the circus that this song conjures. This single marks the first recording with my regular touring band—we've been arranging it over the years, performing it live and watching audiences with their empathetic giggles. While there is certainly a queer lens to the song for me, I think the circus of ex drama is as ubiquitous as heartbreak itself."

"Mine to Love" releases September 25, 2026, on all major streaming services. The song was recorded in New Orleans thanks to a grant from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
